  • Live entertainment from groups such as the Sweet Memories Swing Band or Maple Street Ramblers
  • Sing-a-longs
  • Music Circles
  • Art Classes
  • Cultural enrichment, such as exploring regions of different countries where community members have visited.

At Gable Pines, our fun music and arts activities inspire and enable creative expression. They also provide a therapeutic outlet that can help aging residents address emotional, psychological, cognitive, physical and social needs.

By definition, music therapy is a clinical and evidence-based music intervention designed to help improve a person emotionally and psychologically. It has been successfully used in pain management, to help treat or relieve symptoms in individuals who have been through crisis or trauma, and to help seniors with Alzheimer’s Disease or who have mental or emotional delays.
According to the American Music Therapy Association, music therapy can help:

  • Promote wellness
  • Manage stress
  • Alleviate pain
  • Express feelings
  • Enhance memory
  • Improve communication
  • Promote physical rehabilitation

At Gable Pines, our art and music activities are selected by our qualified activities staff for both entertainment and therapeutic qualities. Seniors can experience some of the benefits of music therapy simply by engaging in a music-related activity, such as listening to music, dancing to music, or singing in a group.

As for art, the American Art Therapy Association states that art therapy “uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages.” Art therapies can include drawing, painting, sculpting and utilizing other art media to meet the needs of an individual or group. This artistic self-expression can help you: solve conflicts, manage behavior, improve self-esteem, develop self-awareness and insight, manage stress and develop interpersonal skills.

Whether creating your own masterpiece or joining a group to view and discuss various art forms and cultures, our Gable Pines arts activities will allow you to get creative as well as inspire you in different ways each week.

So come, have fun, express your creativity and improve your well-being with us!
